Whether a patient is interested in liposuction or a complete body lift, Dr. Morales tailors his surgical procedures to the individual patient. His finely-honed surgical talent and artistic eye enable Dr. Morales to achieve outstanding results with the following procedures:

Liposuction

Sometimes a healthy diet and proper exercise just aren't enough to banish bothersome fat deposits. In these instances, liposuction can be an effective way to improve one's physique and elevate one's self-esteem. Liposuction can be performed on a variety of areas, including the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, and knees, as well as the cheeks, chin, neck, and upper arms. In some cases, to further sculpt and define target areas, liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift.

Patient Assessment

Although hundreds of thousands of patients undergo liposuction each year, the procedure is most effective on people in good health with a stable body weight, good skin tone and elasticity, and realistic expectations. Dr. Morales performs a thorough evaluation and medical examination to determine a patient's candidacy for liposuction. During the consultation, the doctor also carefully explains what the patient can expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Procedure

Dr. Morales employs the tumescent technique in performing liposuction. During this procedure, fat cells are filled with tumescent solution, a saline solution containing a local anesthetic. Small incisions are made in targeted areas, through which long, thin rods suction out the fat cells. The tumescent technique is designed to produce optimal results while limiting pain and loss of blood.

Recovery

After surgery, patients are given a body-compression garment to wear in the weeks that follow. Patients should plan to rest for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. Pain, numbness, swelling, and bruising are not uncommon and can last up to several weeks. Dr. Morales may prescribe a pain medication to alleviate discomfort. Patients are typically able to return to work in a week and may engage in exercise when they feel comfortable. During the healing process, patients should drink plenty of water and strictly adhere to the post-surgery instructions given to them by Dr. Morales. With proper care, full results should be apparent in one to six months.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a "tummy tuck," is designed for patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their abdominal area. Sometimes their discontent stems from fat deposits and sagging skin that won't respond to diet and exercise. For many women, a protruding abdomen may be the result of abdominal muscles that have been stretched during the course of pregnancy and now refuse to return to their former state. A tummy tuck can correct all of these issues by removing excess fat and skin from the abdominal area and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Patient Assessment

Dr. Morales conducts a comprehensive evaluation and examination to determine whether a patient is a good candidate for a tummy tuck. Those who are in good general health with a stable body weight usually make good candidates. Patients who plan to lose a significant amount of weight or are planning future pregnancies may wish to wait until their weight becomes stable before considering a tummy tuck.

Procedure

Depending on the extent of the surgery, a tummy tuck can take from two to five hours. Dr. Morales begins the procedure by making an incision just above the pubic area and one around the belly button. After removing excess fat, he draws the skin upward so that he may focus on the underlying muscle and tissue. Dr. Morales tightens the muscles by drawing them together and stitching them into place. Then he pulls the skin back down into its proper position, removing excess skin and creating a new position for the belly button. After closing the incisions, the area is carefully bandaged.

Recovery

Patients may be required to stay in the hospital overnight. As with any surgical procedure, recovery time after a tummy tuck depends on the extent of the surgery as well as the physical condition of the patient prior to surgery. Patients are given a set of instructions, which they should follow in order to ensure proper healing. After about a week, Dr. Morales may remove surface stitches and give the patient a support garment to wear during the healing process. Though scars often appear to worsen during the first few months, they will gradually fade.

Body Lift

Those who have lost a significant amount of weight due to either bariatric surgery or dieting may be frustrated by the excess skin that results from rapid weight loss. For these patients, Dr. Ramiro Morales offers body lift surgery. A body lift is a comprehensive contouring procedure designed to remove loose, excess skin from multiple areas of the body, making patients look and feel younger and healthier.

A body lift procedure targets areas of the body in which the skin has lost some of its natural elasticity and may include the arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs. During the procedure, Dr. Morales removes excess skin and tissue from the desired locations in order to produce a smoother, trimmer, shapelier appearance. The results of body lift surgery can be dramatic, and most patients are delighted by their results. Nevertheless, due to the scope of the surgery, the healing time after body lift surgery is lengthy. It may be six weeks or longer before a patient is able to return to work.

Arm Lift

Rapid weight loss or the natural aging process may cause the skin on the arms to lose elasticity and begin to droop. Arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, is a procedure in which loose, excess skin is surgically removed from the upper arms. Through arm lift surgery, Dr. Ramiro Morales enables patients to wear clothing that reveals their smoother, shapelier arms.

During arm lift surgery, Dr. Morales makes an incision along the upper arm, the location and length of which are dependent upon the amount of skin to be removed. Excess fat deposits may also be removed during surgery via liposuction. Once excess fat and skin have been removed, Dr. Morales smoothes the area by pulling the skin tight and then closing the incision.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery is ideal for those who have experienced dramatic or rapid weight loss and would like to remove the resulting excess skin from their thighs. The beautiful results Dr. Ramiro Morales achieves through thigh lift surgery allows patients the freedom of wearing more revealing clothing to show off their firmer, shapelier thighs.

The location of the incision during surgery depends on the area of the thigh that is being targeted, and thigh lift surgery options are thoroughly discussed in the initial consult. The most common types of thigh lifts include:

After an incision is made, excess skin is removed, the skin is pulled tight, and the area is smoothed. Regardless of the type of thigh lift, the incision is usually in such an inconspicuous location that any resulting scar is easily covered by underwear or a bathing suit.
